Sprint Triathlon Fills in 24 Minutes
Race registration for the second annual Reston Sprint Triathlon filled within 24 minutes of its opening Jan. 10. The triathlon is scheduled for June 1.
"We're very excited and humbled by the demand for this event," said Doug Bushée, a director of the CORE Foundation. "This event brings athletes from all over the region to experience the beauty of Reston. Not just our pools, trails and pathways, but they see firsthand our community's values as we all work together to support Reston Interfaith and its mission."
The proceeds from the event will again be donated to Reston Interfaith, a nonprofit that promotes self-sufficiency through support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare and other services.
Five-hundred athletes registered to participate in the Sprint Triathlon. A shorter distance than the Olympic Triathlon distance held each fall in Reston, the Sprint Triathlon includes 12 miles of biking, a mile swim and a three-mile run. While the race is now closed, volunteers and sponsors are still needed to assist with the event. Visit www.restonsprinttri.org.
