Man Charged With Failing to Report Suspected Child Abuse
A 59-year-old Reston man and Loudoun County Public Schools high school assistant principal was charged this week with failing to report suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. The man reportedly held evidence of an inappropriate cell-phone photo of a juvenile female student at his school. He reportedly obtained the photo from another student at the high school but did not inform the child's parents, child protective services or the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office School Resource Deputy assigned to the school. The principal allegedly obtained the information regarding the photo in mid-March and authorities became aware of the incident through a third party about three weeks later. Wayde Byard, public information officer for the Loudoun County Public Schools, said the assistant principal was placed on administrative leave with pay until the case is resolved. The charge is an unclassified misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500. Virginia Code requires any teacher or other person employed in a public or private school, kindergarten or nursery school who has reason to suspect a child is being abused or neglected to report the matter immediately.

Daycare Workers Charged
Three daycare facility employees were charged with failure to report suspected child abuse or neglect last week in Loudoun County. A 53-year-old Reston woman, a 35-year-old Dumfries woman and a 28-year-old woman reportedly had knowledge of possible child abuse that took place at Kinder Care Day Care Center in Ashburn. The incident allegedly happened in mid-January when a third-party witness said they saw a teacher shake a toddler. It was reported that the three women charged knew of the situation but never informed child protective services or the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. All three women are managers at the daycare and were charged in late April. The charge is an unclassified misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500.
