Perhaps if we were to listen to the life stories of our guests from Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala, we would each have a desire to help them. The Hispanic people who I have met have a desire to work and improve their lives-the same aspirations as our own first-American families, our ancestors.
When the laws, national or local, no longer result in peaceful co-existence, the people of a democracy have the responsibility to elect officials who will work towards changing those laws.
Problems have occurred in our town and there are no easy solutions, but laws that result in cruel intolerance are not the answer. We residents of Herndon can do better than that.
