Time for Change from 'Do-Nothing' Council
To the editor:
Next week's town election is about putting the adults back in charge of Herndon's government. After two years of "saving Herndon" from 125 day laborers, our ideology-driven mayor and council have not much to show except a lot of spin.
In fact, not a single person has been arrested in Herndon for being an illegal alien. They have, however, succeeded in making Herndon a welcoming destination for various white-supremacist hate groups. They've received a remedial lecture by a judge regarding an individual's Constitutional rights. They have succeeded in dividing our community over an immigration issue manufactured by outsiders. Even now, they are being funded by outside groups with their own agendas. We're well on the path to joining Prince William County as the laughingstock of Virginia.
This cackle tries to but cannot take credit for a single positive accomplishment for our town, unless you count lining the streets with day laborers a positive. The only achievements these past two years were initiatives of the previous two councils. This group's significant distinction is actively trying to do nothing, and succeeding.
Downtown development remains all talk, most of it in closed session, and no action. The previous council lowered taxes, this one just talks about it. With the real estate market implosion, the current council is clueless as to how to prepare Herndon for the ensuing revenue crash without draining our rainy-day fund and placing our infrastructure and credit rating at risk.
For the sake of our town, vote for change on May 6.
Louis Horvath
